The design of this home began with an idea of discovery. The approach to this home wraps around the understated north side of the, leading to surprise discovery of the wood clad south elevation as you finally arrive at the home. Using natural light and the protection of the earth to maximize efficiency, the site hides the spacious interior which is buried 8’ into the ground. High north windows and operable glazing oblong the south elevation maximize natural light and use the natural wind to cool the home in the summer. This design creates a hidden retreat.
